Articulate Closes the Door on Internet Explorer

In May of 2021, Microsoft announced that they will officially retire Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) on June 15th of 2022 and recommends the use of Microsoft Edge. On Monday, November 1st, Articulate officially announced that they would be dropping support of Internet Explorer 11 from their web apps, the Articulate.com, and E-Learning Heroes websites at the end of 2021. Articulate also announced that beginning July 1st 2022, you will no longer be able to view courses published in Storyline 360, Studio 360, and Rise 360 in IE 11.

What does this mean for Artisan, our clients, and our contractors? Not much, but here are a few things that may affect you.

Effective immediately, Artisan E-Learning will no longer offer browser testing on IE 11 as part of the sales process. We are in discussions with our clients who currently have projects in development on how to handle this situation. If you are a browser tester, DO NOT remove Internet Explorer 11 just yet. We will let you know when it is safe to do so.

For our developers, you won’t be able to view the Articulate website or E-Learning Heroes website using IE 11. It also means that you won’t be able to launch Articulate Rise or Review in IE 11. It is recommended that you choose another modern browser if you have not done so already.

Of course, Storyline developers should also be mindful of the latest updates to the software. You will find more information about those updates and how it affects your work for Artisan here in the Contractor Communication Platform.

Edge with IE Mode

The new Microsoft Edge includes a Internet Explorer mode that will allow users to view legacy websites and use legacy web applications. It is unclear if the Internet Explorer mode in MS Edge will be able to view courses published in versions of Articulate apps previous to July 1st 2022. However, Articulate did recognize that courses published prior to July 1st 2022 will continue to work in IE 11. We will be testing sample courses and keep all parties informed on the results.

For now, we are reaching out to our clients with this information and making the recommendation that they test their existing courses in modern browsers including Edge.
